High-Density Polyethylene is stiff, crinkly and economical. It resists tearing from straight cuts and gives more bags per kilo, so it's the cost leader for high-density can liners, t-shirt bags and produce bags. It's less resistant to punctures from sharp or pointed objects.
Low-Density (and Linear Low-Density) Polyethylene is soft, stretchy and glossy. It's far more puncture- and impact-resistant, which makes it ideal for heavy, wet or sharp waste, contractor bags and poly mailers. It costs more per bag for the same size.
Choose HDPE for light/dry waste, maximum yield and lowest cost (offices, restrooms, retail carry bags). Choose LDPE/LLDPE for heavy, sharp or wet loads and premium feel (kitchen, contractor, mailers).
